Laros Duarte ontbreekt na de jaarwisseling in de selectie van FC Groningen. De 26-jarige middenvelder is geselecteerd door Kaapverdië voor de eindronde van de Afrika Cup in Ivoorkust.
De Kaapverdische Eilanden zijn ingedeeld in Groep B met Egypte, Ghana en Mozambique. Het toernooi begint voor Kaapverdië op 14 januari. De laatste groepswedstrijd staat gepland op 22 januari. De finale van de Afrika Cup is geprogrammeerd op zondag 11 februari.
Oefenduel in Bochum De eerste training van FC Groningen in 2024 is op woensdag 3 januari om 14.30 uur. Ter voorbereiding op de tweede seizoenshelft oefent FC Groningen in het nieuwe jaar tegen VfL Bochum 1848. De Trots van het Noorden speelt op zaterdag 6 januari 2024 in Duitsland tegen de nummer 14 van de 1. Bundesliga.
Het oefenduel wordt gespeeld op de Leichtathletikplatz aan de Castroper Straße bij het Vonovia Ruhrstadion van Bochum. De aftrap is om 14.00 uur. Op last van de Duitse autoriteiten is het oefenduel in Bochum achter gesloten deuren en is er dus geen toegang voor publiek. De Bundesligaclub geeft aan een live stream te verzorgen, waardoor liefhebbers het duel alsnog kunnen volgen.
