Björn Zwikker wordt met ingang van 1 juli 2021 trainer/coach van FC Groningen onder-16. De 32-jarige Emmenaar volgt in deze functie Bote Talsma op, die aan het einde van dit seizoen de overstap maakt naar Ajax.
Björn Zwikker is geboren, getogen en woonachtig in Emmen en wordt in de loop van deze maand 33 jaar. Zwikker komt over van FC Emmen, waar hij dit seizoen trainer is van onder-18 en hoofdtrainer bij vv Emmen. De Emmenaar voetbalde zelf in de jeugdopleiding van FC Emmen. Zwikker belandde al op jonge leeftijd in het trainersvak. Hij was zowel jeugdtrainer als hoofd jeugdopleiding bij 2e Divisionist HHC Hardenberg, alvorens Zwikker overstapte naar de KNVB als talent- en performance-coach in de leeftijd 17/19 jaar.
Hoofd Opleiding Peter Jeltema zegt over de komst van Zwikker naar FC Groningen: “Wij hebben Björn leren kennen als een trainer die ontwikkeling en groei voorstaat. Niet alleen zijn persoonlijke ontwikkeling, maar zonder meer ook voor spelers en mensen in zijn directe omgeving. Björn is nieuwsgierig en leergierig en probeert hiervan veel op te slaan en toe te passen in zijn rol als trainer/coach/manager. Wij kennen en volgen Björn al wat langer en soms is het een kwestie van de juiste timing dat dingen bij elkaar komen. Dat is nu het geval geweest. Wij denken dat dit een mooie match is.
