Alex Mortensen is de nieuwe spits FC Groningen onder-21. De 18-jarige Zweed komt over van Kalmar FF en wordt in eerste instantie voor één seizoen gehuurd van de Zweedse club. De aanvaller sluit dit seizoen aan bij het oudste team binnen de Opleiding.
Mortensen tekende vrijdagmiddag in het stadion van zijn nieuwe club zijn overeenkomst bij FC Groningen. De spits speelde afgelopen seizoen drie bekerwedstrijden in het eerste van Kalmar FF. Tot een competitiedebuut op het hoogste Zweedse niveau kwam het niet, al zat de aanvaller op 12 april van dit jaar wel bij de wedstrijdselectie voor het competitieduel met Östersunds FK.
Mortensen gaat in Nederland in een gastgezin wonen en kijkt uit naar zijn tijd bij FC Groningen. “Ik ben blij met deze stap en wil me ontwikkelen als speler en persoon. Ik droom ervan om in dit prachtige stadion te spelen en zal eerst veel goals moeten maken bij FC Groningen onder-21.”
De spits sluit bij FC Groningen aan bij het oudste team binnen de Opleiding; FC Groningen onder-21. Trainer Sander van Gessel is te spreken over zijn aanvallende versterking. “Alex heeft een week met ons meegetraind en we hebben gezien dat het een jongen is met veel mogelijkheden. Zijn beste positie is centraal in de spits. Hij combineert fysieke kracht met snelheid en scorend vermogen. We zijn benieuwd wat Alex hier gaat laten zien en ik kijk uit naar een mooie samenwerking.”
