Maandagavond 11 januari 2016 hebben zes spelers uit de regionale voetbalschool van FC Groningen hun eerste overeenkomst getekend. Zij zullen komend seizoen deel uitmaken van FC Groningen D2.
Robin Kelder (ACV E1), Nathan Lesman (NEC Delfzijl E1), Joop Oosterhof (Zuidhorn E1), Roelof Reusken, Tijn Simmeren en Thijmen Blokzijl (allen Be Quick Groningen E1) maken al geruime tijd deel uit van de voetbalschool van FC Groningen. Onlangs waren ze actief namens FC Groningen O.11 in Qatar. Ze bemachtigden daar de eerste prijs.
Robin Kelder is een fysiek sterke verdediger met een enorm loopvermogen die gemakkelijk kan inschuiven van achteruit. Nathan Lesman is een linksbenige stylist. Deze atleet kan op meerder posities spelen. Joop Oosterhof heeft het vermogen om iedere spits uit te schakelen. Met zijn snelheid en corrigerend vermogen kan ook hij op meerdere posities spelen. Roelof Reusken laat zich kenmerken door zijn inzicht, passing en atletisch vermogen. Roelof kan op meerdere posities van achteruit spelen. Tijn Simmeren is met zijn slimme loopacties, slalom-dribbels en inzicht voor de goal een plaag voor vele verdedigers. Thijmen Blokzijl kan met zijn lange passen gemakkelijk afstanden overbruggen. Heeft een natuurlijke drang naar voren en kan op meerdere posities uit de voeten.
Naast de al eerder vastgelegde Ahmed Mohamed van DZOH E1 telt het nieuwe FC Groningen O.12 nu zeven spelers. Voetbalscholen Op zondag 31 januari beginnen de Regionale Voetbalscholen (RVBS) met de tweede seizoenshelft. De F-pupillen en E-pupillen krijgen dan opnieuw de kans zich te meten met besten uit hun eigen regio. Daarnaast geeft het de trainers van de amateurclubs in het noorden de kans om inspiratie op te doen ten aanzien van trainen, coachen en begeleiden van hun spelers. Een ieder kan zichzelf verder ontwikkelen door de trainingen in Wildervank, Bedum, Roden, Assen en Hoogeveen te komen bezichtigen.
