Zaterdagmiddag 10 juli 2010 speelt FC Groningen de derde oefenwedstrijd in de voorbereiding. Tegenstander is de Deense eredivisionist FC Midtjylland. Het duel wordt gespeeld op het Sportcomplex Onnerweg van vv Haren te Haren en begint om 15.00 uur.
FC Midtjylland is een Deense voetbalclub uit Herning. De club kwam in 1999 tot stand na een fusie tussen Herning Fremad en Ikast FS. Herning Fremad werd in 1918 opgericht, maar was geen hoogvlieger in de Deense voetbalgeschiedenis. Tussen 1983 en 1985 speelde de club op het hoogste niveau, maar daarna kwam de club slechts uit in de tweede klasse. Ikast FS werd in 1935 opgericht en speelde in 1979 voor het eerst in de hoogste klasse. In 1989 verloor de club de bekerfinale van Brøndby IF, maar ging wel Europa in en speelde tegen FC Groningen, eveneens verliezend bekerfinalist in 1989. FC Groningen won de thuiswedstrijd met 1-0 en won vervolgens in Ikast met 1-2.
In 1999 werden de eerste eltallen van deze beide verenigingen samengevoegd en gingen verder onder de naam FC Midtjylland (Midden-Jutland). De club ontwikkelde zich tot een subtopper in de hoogste klasse. De lagere elftallen van de clubs bleven onder de oude naam in de verschillende competities spelen. FC Midtjylland werd kampioen van de tweede klasse in 2000 en bereikte in 2003, 2005 en 2010 de bekerfinale.
