FC Groningen heeft bedroefd kennisgenomen van het nieuws dat voormalig clubarts Jannes Nijboer zondag 17 oktober is overleden aan de gevolgen van ziekte. Nijboer werd 73 jaar. We herinneren ons Jannes als een fijne collega en zeer kundig arts. FC Groningen condoleert familie en vrienden en wenst hen veel sterkte om dit verlies een plek te kunnen geven.
Nijboer begon in 1990 als clubarts bij FC Groningen en werkte meerdere decennia bij de Trots van het Noorden. Een zeer bevlogen sportarts, die veel tijd en energie heeft geleverd binnen de Opleiding en die daarnaast het voetbal van de jeugd met veel interesse volgde.
Nijboer was daarnaast onder meer grondlegger van het Sportmedisch Adviescentrum. Hij was betrokken bij veel sportinitiatieven, waaronder de oprichting van de Sportrecreade in zijn woonplaats Ten Boer. De sportarts werd in 2010 benoemd tot Ridder in de orde van Oranje Nassau voor zijn verdiensten voor de sport in Groningen. FC Groningen is Nijboer zeer erkentelijk voor zijn werk en het leggen van een stabiele basis onder de medische begeleiding van de Opleiding, waarop de club nog altijd doorbouwt.
