Maandag 29 juni, een dag na het eerste elftal, begint Jong FC Groningen aan de voorbereiding op het nieuwe seizoen. Daarin is er elke week ruimte voor het spelen van minimaal één oefenwedstrijd. Inmiddels zijn vier tegenstanders vastgelegd.
Zo zal er op zaterdag 18 juli gespeeld worden tegen Jong SC Cambuur. Op zaterdag 25 juli wordt er bij HHC Hardenberg gespeeld. Twee dagen later is Jong SC Heerenveen de tegenstander. Op zaterdag 1 augustus is een ploeg uit de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten te gast. Piramide Jong FC Groningen speelt in het komende seizoen een volledige competitie met elf ploegen. Vanaf maandag 10 augustus zijn FC Twente, AZ, Vitesse, FC Utrecht, Sparta Rotterdam, FC Volendam, De Graafschap, Almere City FC, Brabant United en Achilles ’29 de tegenstanders in deze competitie.
Op basis van een ranglijst van de resultaten van de Beloften en A1 en B1 over een periode van drie jaar zal een klassering worden opgemaakt. De nummer 1 van deze ranglijst gaat in 2016/2017 spelen in de Jupiler League. Vier teams zullen instromen in de nieuwe Landelijke Divisie. Drie teams gaan naar de Topklasse Zaterdag en drie naar de Topklasse Zondag.
