Er zijn vijf spelers van FC Groningen opgenomen in de voorselectie van Jong Oranje, dat vrijdag 7 september in Tilburg speelt tegen Jong Oostenrijk.
Bondscoach Cor Pot heeft Leandro Bacuna, Marco Bizot, Virgil van Dijk, Johan Kappelhof en Género Zeefuik opgenomen in de dertigkoppige voorselectie voor het EK-kwalificatieduel.
Op vrijdag 31 augustus wordt de definitieve selectie van achttien spelers bekend. Jong Oranje is op jacht naar een ticket voor de play-offs om deelname aan het EK onder-21 dat in 2013 in Israël wordt gehouden.
Beloftenelftal Doelman Stefan van der Lei is door bondscoach Remy Reynierse geselecteerd voor de selectie van het Nederlands Beloften Elftal dat op zaterdag 8 september in Istanbul speelt tegen de leeftijdsgenoten van Turkije.
