Lars Veldwijk is de nieuwe nummer 9 van FC Groningen. De spits komt over van het Belgische KV Kortrijk dat hem de afgelopen maanden verhuurde aan het Noorse Aalesunds FK. De aanvaller kan niet wachten om aan te sluiten bij de selectie van trainer Ernest Faber en is zeer blij met zijn overstap naar de Trots van het Noorden.
Veldwijk liet woensdagmiddag zijn grote glimlach meermaals zien tijdens de perspresentatie van de spits. “Ik ben blij en trots om hier voor drie seizoenen te mogen tekenen,” stelt de aanvaller die gaat spelen met rugnummer 9. “De keuze voor Groningen is een gevoelskwestie. Ik wilde graag weer naar Nederland, mede vanwege familie en voetballen in Nederland voelt toch als thuis. Groningen is op dit moment nog geen thuis, maar hopelijk gaat dat snel komen.”
Goed gesprek
Trainer Ernest Faber en de nieuwe technisch manager Ron Jans zochten Veldwijk vorige week op in Noorwegen om de plannen die FC Groningen met de spits heeft te bespreken. Veldwijk kent Jans nog uit een succesvolle periode bij PEC Zwolle. “Ik heb met Jans een goede samenwerking gehad en we hebben ook altijd contact gehouden. Na zijn aanstelling hier heb ik hem een SMS gestuurd, misschien heeft dat nog invloed gehad,” grapte de nieuwe spits.
“Faber en Jans hebben een heel goed gesprek met me gevoerd in Noorwegen en er sprak veel vertrouwen uit. Toen was het al duidelijk dat ik de keuze voor FC Groningen wilde maken. Het heeft allemaal nog wat langer geduurd, maar ik ben heel blij om hier te tekenen.”
Zo snel mogelijk aansluiten
De selectie van Faber is vanmiddag vertrokken naar Duitsland voor een trainingskamp, maar Veldwijk moet later vandaag nog terug naar Noorwegen om eventueel zondag nog een wedstrijd te spelen met Aalesunds FK. “Ik moet daar nog één wedstrijd spelen, maar mijn gevoel ligt nu bij Groningen dus dat is wel lastig. Ik ga dat morgen met de mensen daar bespreken en hopelijk zien ze aan mij dat ik zo snel mogelijk wil aansluiten bij FC Groningen.”
Doordat de competitie in Noorwegen in de zomers doorloopt is Veldwijk direct speelklaar. “Ik ben topfit, het seizoen zou wat mij betreft morgen mogen beginnen. Ik heb heel veel zin om me hier in Groningen te laten zien.”
