Rondom de bekerwedstrijd van FC Groningen, vanavond tegen NEC, zal in Euroborg voor de eerste keer stil worden gestaan bij het overlijden van Martin Koeman. De clubicoon overleed woensdagavond op 75-jarige leeftijd. Martin Koeman was in verschillende functies vijftig jaar lang verbonden aan de Trots van het Noorden.
Voor de aftrap van de bekerwedstrijd van vanavond in Euroborg zal FC Groningen een minuut stilte houden en zullen de spelers met rouwbanden om voetballen. Het randprogramma bij de bekerwedstrijd van vanavond zal een sober karakter kennen. De muziekkeuze rondom de wedstrijd wordt aangepast, er zullen dit keer geen beachvlaggen op het veld worden geplaatst en bij winst op NEC zullen de spelers niet zoals te doen gebruikelijk ballen het publiek inschieten. Vanaf de aftrap zal de wedstrijd zelf op een reguliere wijze worden afgewerkt. Familie leidend Sinds het overlijden van Martin Koeman, woensdagavond, wordt de club overstelpt met steunbetuigingen en goed bedoelde ideeën en suggesties om hem te eren. FC Groningen stelt dit medeleven en meedenken enorm op prijs, maar wil benadrukken dat wat betreft het herdenken van Martin Koeman de club dagelijks in contact staat met de familieleden en zij ook leidend zijn in wat wij wel of niet kunnen en zullen organiseren.
Voor de competitiewedstrijd van zondagmiddag in Euroborg (eveneens tegen NEC) – waarbij FC Groningen nog nadrukkelijker zal stilstaan bij het overlijden van Martin Koeman – wordt nog nagedacht en gesproken over de speciale invulling en omlijsting van dat duel. Bij de gesprekken hierover zal ook de Supportersvereniging FC Groningen worden betrokken. Initiatieven van supporters Alle eigen initiatieven van supporters om Martin Koeman rondom de beker- en competitiewedstrijd tegen NEC te herdenken worden ten zeerste op prijs gesteld en oproepen om vanavond bijvoorbeeld massaal met een FC Groningen-sjaal naar Euroborg te komen om deze op te houden tijdens de minuut stilte worden van harte omarmd. Alle andere geopperde voorstellen neemt FC Groningen mee bij het opstellen van het programma voor zondag. Zodra meer bekend is over de invulling van het programma rondom de competitiewedstrijd van zondagmiddag tegen NEC, zullen we dat via deze website melden.
