Yoëll van Nieff en Kasper Larsen hebben van FC Groningen te horen gekregen dat ze na dit seizoen bij de club kunnen uitzien naar een andere club. De optie in de overeenkomst van Ajdin Hrustic wordt gelicht. Hrustic staat nu tot medio 2019 onder contract bij de Trots van het Noorden. De overeenkomst met doelman Kevin Begois was al eerder al met één seizoen verlengd.
FC Groningen moest voor 1 april 2018 uitsluitsel geven aan het trio met aflopende contracten binnen de eerste selectie. Voor de Japanner Ritsu Doan geldt dat FC Groningen voor 1 mei duidelijk moet maken of de koopoptie voor een contract van drie seizoenen zal worden gelicht.
Yoëll van Nieff (24) kwam veertien seizoenen geleden van GRC naar de jeugdopleiding van FC Groningen en doorliep alle teams op Sportpark Corpus den Hoorn. Sinds 2013 kwam Van Nieff tot 89 officiële optredens in het eerste elftal en maakte hij vier doelpunten. Van Nieff behoorde tot de selectie van FC Groningen toen de KNVB-beker werd gewonnen in 2015. Ook werd Van Nieff een halfjaar verhuurd aan FC Dordrecht in de Jupiler League en een jaar aan Excelsior in de Eredivisie.
Kasper Larsen (25) is bezig aan zijn derde seizoen bij FC Groningen. De verdediger speelde tot dusver 52 officiële wedstrijden in het eerste elftal en werd in zijn periode in het Noordlease Stadion geselecteerd voor de Olympische voetbalploeg van Denemarken, waarmee hij deelnam aan de Spelen van 2016 in het Braziliaanse Rio de Janeiro.
Kevin Begois (35) zag eerder in dit seizoen zijn contract automatisch met één seizoen verlengd, toen hij eerder dit seizoen in officiële wedstrijden twintig keer bij de eerste selectie van FC Groningen heeft gezeten. Begois heeft nog geen officiële wedstrijden in de hoofdmacht van de FC gespeeld.
Ajdin Hrustic (21) speelt voor het vierde seizoen in het shirt van FC Groningen. De aanvallende middenvelder begon in de onder-19 op Corpus den Hoorn en speelde daarna twee seizoenen in Jong FC Groningen. Op 1 april maakte hij zijn debuut in de hoofdmacht van FC Groningen en sinds dit seizoen behoort de Australisch international tot de eerste selectie. Hij speelde tot dusver 20 wedstrijden en maakte drie treffers.
