Met ingang van het voetbalseizoen 2014/2015 zal er een aantal mutaties plaatsvinden binnen de jeugdopleiding van FC Groningen. Zo wordt Sander van Gessel jeugdtrainer op Sportpark Corpus den Hoorn, gaat Peter Moltmaker de functie van Hoofd Jeugdscouting bekleden en treedt Luit Zwaneveld na een dienstverband van 25 jaar uit dienst bij de club.
Sander van Gessel wordt met ingang van het seizoen 2014/2015 de nieuwe jeugdtrainer van FC Groningen B2. De 37-jarige voormalige speler van FC Groningen kwam tijdens zijn actieve carrière in totaal tot 197 officiële wedstrijden in het groen-witte shirt van de club, waarin hij 32 keer scoorde. Debuut Van Gessel maakte op 14 april 1996 als 19-jarige jongen zijn debuut in het eerste elftal van de Trots van het Noorden als invaller tijdens de met 3-1 verloren uitwedstrijd tegen De Graafschap. Hij speelde in twee periodes in totaal negen seizoenen voor FC Groningen. Daarnaast stond Van Gessel in Nederland onder contract bij sc Heerenveen, NAC Breda en Sparta Rotterdam. Hoofd Jeugdscouting Na 12 jaar neemt Peter Moltmaker afscheid van het jeugdtrainerschap bij FC Groningen en ruilt hij deze positie in voor Hoofd Jeugdscouting. Daarmee wordt Moltmaker verantwoordelijk voor de totale jeugdscouting binnen de opleiding van de club. Deze stap is mede ingezet omdat scoutingcoördinator Luit Zwaneveld na een dienstverband van 25 jaar bij FC Groningen terugtreedt in zijn functie.
Zwaneveld is de grondlegger van de jeugdscouting binnen FC Groningen en heeft grote verdiensten voor de club gehad. Hij heeft talenten als Arjen Robben, Leandro Bacuna en Richairo Zivkovic ‘door de vingers gehad’ en zag hen tot profvoetballers uitgroeien. Uiteraard zal het afscheid van Zwaneveld bij FC Groningen niet onopgemerkt voorbijgaan. Opvolger Marcel van Buuren – dit jaar tussentijds aangesteld bij FC Groningen B2 als opvolger van Rick Mulder – gaat in het seizoen 2014/2015 de functie van Moltmaker als trainer/coach van de B1-junioren overnemen. Peter Hoekstra (A1), Hugo Alves Velame (C1), Gerard Wiekens (C2), Arjen Jorritsma (D1) en Bote Talsma (D2) blijven in het nieuwe seizoen als trainer/coach aan bij de teams waarvoor ze ook nu de eindverantwoording dragen.
