Donderdagmiddag speelt FC Groningen het eerste en enige oefenduel in de aanloop naar de tweede seizoenshelft. Tijdens het trainingskamp op Tenerife is hoofdklasser Quick Boys de tegenstander. Alle inzetbare spelers zullen in de oefenwedstrijd speeltijd krijgen. Koen van de Laak staat na meer dan een jaar voor zijn rentree in het groen-witte shirt.
De oefenwedstrijd wordt gespeeld op het trainingscomplex Tenerife Top Training in La Caleta in de regio Costa Adeje. De aftrap is om 16.30 uur lokale tijd. In Nederland is het dan een uur later. Het wedstrijdveld op Tenerife Top Training kent de minimale afmetingen. Vorig jaar was het veld groter, maar er is een sintelbaan met vier atletiekstroken omheen gelegd. Kleiner “De ruimtes op het veld zullen dus ook kleiner zijn”, zegt trainer Pieter Huistra in de voorbeschouwing op de wedstrijd. “Het gaat vanmiddag om de uitvoering, de uitslag vind ik niet zo belangrijk. Het gaat daarbij om techniek en afstemming op elkaar, coaching, druk zetten op de tegenstander, de opbouw en de uitvoering van spelhervattingen. Dit alles moet leiden tot het creëren van kansen en doelpunten.” Dirk Kuyt Huistra zegt niet te weten wat hij van Quick Boys, waar international Dirk Kuyt – afkomstig van de club uit Katwijk – technisch adviseur is, mag verwachten. “Maar wij moeten toch ons eigen ding doen. Het gaat om de intenties. De kwaliteit van het veld leent er zich goed voor om de bal snel rond te spelen. Ook als we gaan wisselen, moet de uitvoering hetzelfde blijven. Alle spelers die wedstrijdfit zijn, zullen minuten maken.” Koen van de Laak Dit betekent dat ook Koen van de Laak voor het eerst sinds vrijdag 3 december 2010, toen hij in de competitiewedstrijd tegen Vitesse zijn voorste kruisband in de knie afscheurde, zijn rentree kan maken in een wedstrijd van FC Groningen.
