FC Groningen zal haar Europese wedstrijden in het seizoen 2014/2015 in een uniek wedstrijdshirt spelen. Op de borst van het groen-witte tricot van de club zal niet de naam van hoofdsponsor Essent prijken, maar die van Powerhouse. Powerhouse maakt net als Essent onderdeel uit van de RWE-groep en richt zich op de grootzakelijke energiemarkt.
Op deze manier zullen de wedstrijdshirts van FC Groningen in Europees verband uniek zijn en ware collector items worden voor supporters en verzamelaars. Want naast de andere uiting op de borst wordt ook de speciale badge van de Europa League op het shirt aangebracht. FC Groningen is heel enthousiast over deze speciale constructie van de RWE-groep, omdat de club op deze manier unieke Europese wedstrijdshirts kan aanbieden aan supporters en liefhebbers van bijzondere shirts. Bekendheid Powerhouse wil meer internationale bekendheid en ziet in de wedstrijden van FC Groningen in de Europa League een middel om de naamsbekendheid te vergroten. Het creëren van exposure is de voornaamste reden om het logo van Powerhouse op het FC Groningen-shirt te plaatsen tijdens de Europese campagne. Dit logo komt alleen tijdens de wedstrijden in de Europa League op de shirts. Tijdens de competitie en bekerwedstrijden zullen de bestaande shirts worden gebruikt. Deze zijn dit seizoen sowieso nieuw omdat FC Groningen in Masita een nieuwe kledingsponsor heeft gevonden. Marktleider Sinds 10 jaar is Powerhouse als energiespeler een gevestigde naam én marktleider binnen de glastuinbouw sector. Powerhouse stelt klanten in staat rechtstreeks op de energiemarkten te opereren en de meest gunstige voorwaarden voor in- en verkoop te realiseren. Hierdoor zijn klanten in controle over hun energiebudget en hebben ze de mogelijkheid er rendement mee te behalen.
De ambitie van de RWE-groep om deze nieuwe norm uit te dragen, binnen andere sectoren en markten, nationaal en internationaal, is groot. Het inzetten van nieuwe communicatiemiddelen zoals shirtsponsoring van FC Groningen in de Europa League past daarbij.
