Jong FC Groningen heeft maandagavond met 2-0 gewonnen bij NEC/Oss. Door de eerste uitzege van het seizoen stijgt de ploeg van trainer Erwin van de Looi naar de derde plek op de ranglijst.
Op bezoek bij de nummer 11 van de ranglijst speelde FC Groningen met Tom Hiariej in de basis als controlerende middenvelder. Hij maakte zijn rentree na een hamstringblessure die hem enkele weken aan de kant hield.
In de laatste minuut van de eerste helft bracht Leandro Bacuna de gasten op een 1-0 voorsprong. Acht minuten na de pauze verdubbelde Danny Menting de score. De 0-2 stand was ook de eindstand, omdat latere kansen aan Menting en Krohne niet waren besteed.
Door de zege stijgt FC Groningen naar de derde plek op de ranglijst. Komende maandag komt ADO Den Haag op bezoek op Corpus den Hoorn. Weer een week later, op maandag 19 oktober, is koploper Feyenoord/Excelsior te gast in Euroborg.
