FC Groningen speelt vrijdag 21 augustus en zaterdag 22 augustus twee oefenwedstrijden. De Trots van het Noorden oefent vrijdagavond om 18.00 uur in Westwoud tegen FC Volendam. Zaterdagmiddag wordt om 14.00 uur in Almere afgetrapt voor een duel met Almere City. De wedstrijd tegen FC Volendam is te volgen op het YouTube-kanaal van FC Groningen, het treffen in Almere wordt uitgezonden door FOX Sports.
Trainer Danny Buijs heeft nog drie weken om zijn team voor te bereiden op de start van een nieuw Eredivisie-seizoen. De trainer beschouwt voor op de twee oefenwedstrijden tegen FC Volendam en Almere City en vertelt waarom er is gekozen om twee wedstrijden in korte tijd te spelen. “Vanwege de beperkingen waarmee we in coronatijd te maken hebben, hebben we met twee verschillende groepen toegewerkt naar het dubbele programma. Tegen FC Volendam zal een flink aantal jongens van FC Groningen onder-21 in actie komen. In Almere zal met name de eerste selectie aantreden.”
Patrick Joosten en Görkem Can ontbreken in beide wedstrijdselecties. Over de mogelijke aanwezigheid van Arjen Robben zegt Buijs: “Arjen heeft deze week meegedraaid in de groep die zich richt op Almere City. Zoals eerder aangegeven beslissen we pas op het laatste moment of hij onderdeel gaat uitmaken van de wedstrijdselectie. We bekijken steeds per keer wat het beste in zijn programma past.”
FC-supporters zijn vanwege de geldende coronaprotocollen niet welkom bij uitwedstrijden van de Trots van het Noorden. De wedstrijd tegen FC Volendam is morgen (vrijdag) vanaf 18.00 uur te volgen op het YouTube-kanaal van de club. Het duel van een dag later met Almere City wordt live uitgezonden door FOX Sports. Aftrap van die wedstrijd is zaterdag om 14.00 uur.
