Het was vanmiddag razend druk in en om Euroborg. Liefst 23.000 toeschouwers bezochten de 23ste Open Dag van FC Groningen. Zoals altijd kwamen er ook wat nieuwtjes los tijdens het forum met daarin trainer Ron Jans, directeur Hans Nijland en aanvoerder Koen van de Laak.
Zo kwam presentator Wilfred Genee er achter dat FC Groningen persoonlijk rond is met linkshalf Tim Sparv en er nu nog onderhandeld moet worden met Halmstads BK. Ook ontvouwde directeur Nijland de ambitie om het stadion uit te breiden naar een capaciteit van 32.000 toeschouwers. Verder wil de FC binnen drie jaar een nieuw trainingscomplex betreden.
Trainer Ron Jans legde aan de hand van de vier kernwaarden – discipline, plezier, uitstraling en samenwerking – uit waarom Koen van de Laak de ideale opvolger is van Paul Matthijs als aanvoerder van FC Groningen. Geheimpjes waren er ook in de ABN Amro Lounge. Zo wilde Jans zijn opstelling van ‘Coach van het Jaar’ niet prijs geven. En directeur Nijland wilde niet ingaan op het transferbedrag van Marcus Berg. Omdat het zo Hamburger SV is afgesproken.
Ron Jans, die komend seizoen analist is bij duels in de Champions League, sloeg een aanbod af van Voetbal International om, als voormalig leraar Duits, elke week de uitspraken van Louis van Gaal te analyseren. Verder ging de discussie nog over de haardracht van Petter Andersson, die overigens eerder die dag voor het eerst zijn opwachting op het veld heeft gemaakt tijdens zijn revalidatie. Het volledige herstel van de Zweed zal overigens nog minimaal drie maanden in beslag nemen.
