Op Hemelvaartsdag kwamen diverse teams van de jeugdopleiding in actie op toernooien.
* Op het sterk bezette Cuatro Madera Tournament in Nuenen moest FC Groningen/Cambuur B1 genoegen nemen met een zevende plaats. In de openingswedstrijd liep de ploeg tegen een onnodige nederlaag op tegen Heerenveen/Emmen. Een Gronings doelpunt werd nog afgekeurd. Na een zege op Bayer Leverkusen verloor FCG ook nipt van RSC Anderlecht. “Dat was onze minste wedstrijd van het toernooi,” aldus trainer Peter Moltmaker. Nuenen werd vervolgens simpel aan de kant gezet waarna de laatste poulewedstrijd tegen Racing Genk in de slotfase werd verloren. In de strijd om de 7de en 8ste plaats eindigde het treffen met AZ onbeslist. Groen-wit was echter sterker in het nemen van strafschoppen. Aanstaande woensdag spelen de B-junioren op Corpus den Hoorn tegen Houston Dynamo. Dat is ook meteen de laatste oefenwedstrijd in aanloop naar het Eurovoetbaltoernooi. * Op het Oranjetoernooi in Wierden heeft FC Groningen/Cambuur C1 beslag gelegd op een vijfde plaats. De ploeg van trainer Grafton Holband speelde een prima toernooi en won liefst vier van de vijf wedstrijden. In de poulefase opende FCG sterk met zeges op Preussen Munster en NEC/FC Oss. Amedi Ndayisaba scoorde driemaal in het duel met de Duitsers. Het slotduel tegen Club Brugge ging met 0-2 verloren waardoor de FC verder moest strijden om de plaatsen vijf tot en met acht. Na winst op het Wierdens Team werd even later Roda JC geklopt. In dat duel was testspeler Kevin Lopez een van de doelpuntennmakers. Over precies een week spelen de tweedejaars C-junioren de bekerfinale tegen Heerenveen/Emmen. Het duel wordt in Drachten gespeeld en begint om 19.00 uur.
