Vandaag, woensdag 7 oktober, wordt voor de twaalfde keer het FC Groningen G-Toernooi gehouden. Spelers en staf van de bekerwinnaar begeleiden vanaf 14.30 uur op Sportpark de Groenenberg in Glimmen tien teams van negen deelnemende clubs.
De door FC Groningen geadopteerde G-voetbalclub Kids United is met twee teams vertegenwoordigd, terwijl VV Gorecht en VV Appingedam vanmiddag hun officiële debuut maken op het G-Toernooi. Uiteraard zijn de bekende gezichten bij HS’88, SJS, Asser Boys en ONR weer aanwezig en doen ook Drenthina en De Brug dit jaar een gooi naar de titel. De Brug ‘verdedigt’ tevens de Menzis Sportiviteitsprijs, die het vorig jaar in de wacht sleepte. Nieuwe kampioen Zeker is dat er een nieuwe kampioen wordt gekroond, doordat titelhouder Asser Lions niet aanwezig is. De finale van het toernooi om de FNV Bouw Bokaal in Glimmen staat om 16.20 uur gepland. Spelers en staf van FC Groningen maken voor de begeleiding van deze prachtige sportieve middag graag tijd vrij. Het G-toernooi staat traditiegetrouw onder de bezielende leiding van Egge Knol en hij wordt daarbij geassisteerd door studenten van het Alfa-college.
