Groningen maakt zich op voor en is in de ban van een bijzonder evenement. Vanavond, donderdag 17 april, komt The Passion 2014 vanuit de Martinistad. En Euroborg is onderdeel van het programma. Organisatiebureau FC Groningen is er in geslaagd de start van de processie vanuit De Groene Kathedraal te laten plaatsvinden.
Het wordt de vierde editie van deze grote live tv-productie van de EO en RKK. The Passion vertelt over het lijden, sterven en de opstanding van Jezus. Dit gebeurt in een modern jasje aan de hand van bekende Nederlandstalige popsongs. Dit jaar zijn de hoofdrollen voor zanger Jan Dulles, die de rol van Jezus vertolkt, actrice Simone Kleinsma (Maria), musicalzanger Stanley Burleson (Petrus), musicalster Jamai Loman, die de verrader Judas speelt en verteller Beau van Erven Dorens. Bijzonder is ook de rol van tv-presentator en sportcommentator Jack van Gelder, die Pilatus is. Meer dan 3 miljoen kijkers Vorig jaar keken er meer dan 3 miljoen mensen naar de live uitzending van The Passion, die toen rechtstreeks vanuit Den Haag kwam. Tijdens de processie in Groningen wordt een groot verlicht kruis door 1.300 personen van Euroborg naar de Vismarkt gebracht. Bij het stadion zelf kan geen publiek aanwezig zijn. Dat wordt namelijk verwacht langs de route en bij het eindpunt van de tocht op de Vismarkt, waar zo’n vijftien- tot twintigduizend belangstellenden worden verwacht. The Passion 2014 wordt vanaf 20.25 uur live uitgezonden op Nederland 1.
