FC Groningen heeft zondagavond in Euroborg met 3-0 verloren van Vitesse. Bij rust was de stand nog in evenwicht (0-0). De Arnhemmers speelden een uur met een man minder dan FC Groningen. Ondanks de nederlaag blijft de FC na vijf speelronden twaalfde op de ranglijst.
In de eerste helft speelde FC Groningen goed en kreeg Virgil van Dijk een kans. Hij kopte de bal alleen vlak naast het doel van de Vitesse-goal. De tweede kans was ook voor Groningen. Op aangeven van Género Zeefuik dwong Mitchell Schet doelman Velthuizen tot zijn tweede redding. Na precies een halfuur spelen werd Zeefuik neergehaald door centrale verdediger Jan-Arie van der Heijden. Hij kreeg rood voor deze overtreding. Vitesse speelde met 10 man verder.
De tweede helft werd er door Groningen een stuk minder goed gespeeld. Na een afstandsschot van Leandro Bacuna kwam Vitesse aan de bal. Patrick van Aanholt passeerde Stefano Magnasco, waarna hij een goede voorzet gaf op Mike Havenaar. Hij scoorde de 0-1. Trainer Robert Maaskant wisselde tweemaal. Magnasco werd afgelost door Tom Hiariej als rechtsback en de lichtgeblesseerde Michael de Leeuw door de clubtopscorer van afgelopen seizoen, David Texeira. Veel heeft het niet mogen baten. Kansen kwamen er niet meer.
Drie minuten voor het einde scoorde Tomas Kalas de 0-2. En in de vier minuten extra tijd van de tweede helft sloeg Vitesse nog een keer toe. Dit keer was het Wilfried Bony die de eindstand op 0-3 zette.
Komende zaterdag gaat Groningen op bezoek bij PEC Zwolle, hopelijk pakken we dan weer de drie volle punten.
