Björn Kuipers leidt zaterdagavond FC Groningens uitduel met PEC Zwolle in de Eredivisie. Nederlands beste arbiter blaast met zijn team om 19.45 uur af in het IJsseldelta Stadion in Zwolle. Het wordt al de derde uitwedstrijd van FC Groningen dit seizoen waarbij Kuipers is aangesteld als scheidsrechter.
WK-ganger Kuipers fluit zaterdagavond zijn 31ste officiële wedstrijd van FC Groningen. Van de dertig ontmoetingen tot nu toe, onder leiding van de 41-jarige scheidsrechter uit Oldenzaal, won FC Groningen exact in de helft van de gevallen. Zeven keer werd het gelijk, acht maal stapte de Trots van het Noorden als verliezer van het veld. Roemloos Dit seizoen hanteerde Kuipers eerder de fluit in Leeuwarden en in Deventer, tijdens de openingsronde van het huidige Eredivisie-seizoen. Tegen Go Ahead Eagles maakte FC Groningen in de tweede helft een 2-0 achterstand ongedaan om uiteindelijk met 2-3 te winnen. Tegen Cambuur had FC Groningen in speelronde 5 geen schijn van kans en ging de ploeg van trainer Erwin van de Looi roemloos met 3-0 onderuit.
Vorig seizoen floot Kuipers de uitwedstrijd van FC Groningen tegen Vitesse (2-2) en de finalewedstrijd van de play-offs tegen AZ (3-0 winst). Vaste team Niet eerder leidde Kuipers een officiële wedstrijd tussen de ploegen uit Zwolle en Groningen. Kuipers wordt in Zwolle geassisteerd door zijn vaste team. Sander van Roekel en Erwin Zeinstra zijn de beide assistent-scheidsrechters. Vierde official is Laurens Gerrets.
