Het contract van aanvallende middenvelder Tomas Suslov is opengebroken en verlengd met een jaar. De 19-jarige Slowaaks international staat nu tot medio 2026 onder contract in Groningen. Suslov droomde zijn hele leven al van een carrière als profvoetballer en heeft in de weg naar succes op het veld veel te danken aan vader Sergej.
Suslov kwam als 16-jarige in 2018 binnen bij de Opleiding van FC Groningen en kroonde zich niet veel later tot landskampioen met FC Groningen onder-17. In februari 2020 debuteerde Suslov in de Eredivisie en vorig seizoen brak hij definitief door bij de FC. “Ik ben temperamentvol en wil met alles wat ik doe winnen. Mijn mentaliteit heeft me op het veld tot nu toe zeker geholpen.”
Naast zijn eigen harde werken in het TopsportZorgCentrum en op de velden van Sportpark Corpus den Hoorn, heeft Suslov veel te danken aan zijn vader. “Sinds ik kan lopen ging ik met mijn vader naar het voetbalveld. Ik heb veel aan hem te danken en geluk met hem. Ook al was hij moe na een dag werken, ging hij met me mee naar het veld.”
