Suk Hyun-Jun maakt per direct de overstap naar het Portugese eiland Madeira. De Zuid-Koreaanse spits tekent een meerjarige verbintenis bij CS Marítimo.
Suk vertrok zondag naar Portugal om zich daar bij CS Marítimo te oriënteren. Dinsdag kreeg FC Groningen het bericht dat de 21-jarige Aziaat een akkoord zou kunnen bereiken met de Portugese club. FC Groningen stemde vervolgens in met een transfervrije overgang van Suk naar CS Marítimo, waar in het verleden ook voormalig FC Groningen-speler Antoine van der Linden onder contract heeft gestaan. Het contract van de Koreaanse spits in Euroborg zou komende zomer aflopen. Opzien Suk kwam in de zomer van 2011 op voorspraak van toenmalig hoofdtrainer Pieter Huistra transfervrij naar FC Groningen. De twee kenden elkaar uit hun gezamenlijke periode bij Jong Ajax. Suk speelde 28 officiële wedstrijden voor FC Groningen, waarin hij vijf keer scoorde.
De Koreaan baarde in Euroborg opzien met zijn twee treffers op 19 februari 2012 in de met 3-0 gewonnen topwedstrijd tegen PSV. Suk scoorde toen onder meer met een fenomenale lob over ongeveer 40 meter. Dat doelpunt ging de wereld over en reikte tot het nieuws in Korea. Aanvoerder Tijdens de voorbereidingsperiode op dit seizoen was Suk in eigen land aanvoerder van FC Groningen bij het toernooi om de Peace Cup in Seoul. De Koreaan is in zijn geboorteland razend populair. Tijdens de eerste seizoenshelft moest Suk genoegen nemen met acht invalbeurten bij de ploeg van trainer Robert Maaskant.
