FC Groningen heeft een nieuwe spits. De 20-jarige Jørgen Strand Larsen komt over van het Noorse Sarpsborg 08. De jeugdinternational van Noorwegen tekende op woensdag een vierjarig contract bij de Trots van het Noorden en keek voor het eerst rond in het Hitachi Capital Mobility Stadion.
Strand Larsen debuteerde in mei 2017 op het hoogste niveau in zijn geboorteland Noorwegen. De spits vertegenwoordigde Noorwegen in diverse jeugdlichtingen en speelde afgelopen dinsdagavond in Almere met Jong Noorwegen tegen Jong Oranje. Voor het eerst als basisspeler. Afgelopen weekend maakte hij als invaller binnen 33 minuten een hattrick voor zijn land tegen Gibraltar.
“Maar dit is de mooiste dag van deze week,” aldus de spits. “Ik stond vanmorgen met een grote glimlach op omdat ik wist vanaf vandaag speler van FC Groningen te zijn. De competitie was al halverwege in Noorwegen en ik ben topfit.”
Strand Larsen wil in Groningen de volgende stap zetten in zijn carrière en gaat spelen met rugnummer 9. “Een rugnummer dat hoort bij een spits, toen ik wist dat het nummer nog vrij was, wilde ik het graag hebben. De supporters kunnen een speler verwachten die hard wil werken en altijd honderd procent inzet toont voor het team.
