Evenals vorig jaar zullen FC Groningen en sc Heerenveen in de aanloop naar de Derby van het Noorden zich donderdag 4 april gezamenlijk maatschappelijk inzetten en een bezoek brengen aan het Beatrix Kinderziekenhuis in het UMCG. Namens FC Groningen zullen Maikel Kieftenbeld, Michael de Leeuw en teammanager Bas Roorda zich bij de kinderafdeling van het ziekenhuis melden. Namens sc Heerenveen zullen Marco Pappa en voormalig FC-speler Arnold Kruiswijk aanwezig zijn. Ook beide clubmascottes Groby en Heero ontbreken niet.
Donderdagmiddag start om 15.00 uur een ronde langs vier kinderafdelingen in het UMCG te Groningen. In aanloop naar de noordelijke derby FC Groningen – sc Heerenveen, die op zondag 7 april wordt gespeeld in Euroborg, zien beide clubs dit als een uitgelezen kans de mooie sociale kant van voetbal te belichten. Beide clubs zetten zich daarom graag in om de patiëntjes een onvergetelijke middag te bezorgen en zo hun verblijf in het ziekenhuis draaglijker te maken. Regelmatig FC Groningen brengt al regelmatig een bezoek aan het UMCG, maar vanuit de kinderafdeling kwam bij sc Heerenveen de wens binnen, dat het ook op prijs gesteld zou worden als de Friese club eens met spelers zou langskomen. Daarom is vorig jaar het idee ontstaan gezamenlijk met spelers van beide Noordelijke clubs een bezoek te brengen aan het UMCG. Tijdens het bezoek kunnen de jonge patiëntjes de vier spelers het hemd van het lijf vragen en met hen op de foto of een handtekening vragen. Ook ontvangen alle kinderen cadeautjes van beide clubs.
