FC Groningen sluit morgen (woensdag 23 december) het kalenderjaar 2020 af met een thuiswedstrijd tegen Heracles Almelo, aftrap 20.00 uur. Net als andere jaren staat de laatste thuiswedstijd van het jaar in het teken van In Memoriam waarbij de supporters die ons dit jaar zijn ontvallen worden herdacht. FC Groningen maakt voorafgaand aan de wedstrijd een speciale live-uitzending op YouTube over de In Memoriam-traditie. De uitzending begint morgenavond omstreeks 19.25 uur.
Door de coronamaatregelen kunnen er geen supporters aanwezig zijn in het stadion en is het programma rond de herdenkingswedstrijd aangepast ten opzichte van andere jaren. Om extra stil te staan bij het herdenken van de dit jaar overleden supporters wordt voorafgaand aan de wedstrijd vanuit één van de skyboxen van het Hitachi Capital Mobility Stadion een live-uitzending van FC Groningen gestreamd op YouTube. In de speciale uitzending komen diverse mensen, onder wie algemeen directeur Wouter Gudde en voorzitter van de Supportersvereniging John de Jonge, aan het woord over de jaarlijkse In Memoriam-traditie. De presentatie is in handen van Jan van der Meide, voormalig journalist bij RTV Noord en tegenwoordig woordvoerder van het provinciebestuur.
Omdat er dit jaar geen supporters in het stadion aanwezig mogen zijn, wil FC Groningen door middel van de live-uitzending extra stilstaan bij de herdenkingswedstrijd. Vorige week werd ook bekend dat supporters persoonlijke items in het stadion konden laten neerleggen om stil te staan bij de mede-supporters die dit jaar of eerder zijn overleden. Op deze manier worden onze overleden supporters op een waardige manier herdacht.
Net als andere jaren worden beeltenissen van de overleden supporters vertoond op de videoschermen in het stadion, de namen verschijnen op de LED-boarding rondom het veld, FC Groningen speelt met rouwbanden en er is een minuut applaus voorafgaand aan de wedstrijd. De live-uitzending van FC Groningen is te volgen via het YouTube-kanaal van de club en begint woensdagavond omstreeks 19.25 uur en zal tot de herdenking op het veld voorafgaand aan het duel duren.
