Jan van Dijk kwam op jonge leeftijd naar Groningen en speelde bijna zijn volledige carriere voor de Trots van het Noorden. Wie Jan van Dijk zegt, denkt direct aan FC Groningen. De club was de middenvelder op het lijf geschreven en Van Dijk was één van de sterkhouders in de tijd dat FC Groningen uitgroeide tot subtopper. FC Groningen maakte een special over de band van de man met de meeste wedstrijden uit de geschiedenis van de club. De special 'Jan van Dijk op het lijf geschreven' is vanavond te zien op ESPN.
Jan van Dijk is mister FC Groningen. De voormalige middenvelder bikkelde en streed op het veld een recordaantal van maar liefst 537 officiële wedstrijden en bekleedde tussen 1975 en 1992 als speler en tussen 1998 en 2001 als trainer ook buiten de lijnen een bepalende rol bij de Trots van het Noorden. In het jubileumjaar van de club – FC Groningen bestaat in het seizoen 2021/2022 vijftig jaar – beschrijft Jan van Dijk de eeuwige bloedband met ‘zijn FC Groningen’.
Vanaf vandaag – donderdag 15 jui – is de special ook terug te kijken op het YouTube-kanaal van de club.
