FC Groningen viert in het seizoen 2021/2022 het 50-jarig jubileum. De geschiedenis van de Trots van het Noorden kent een aantal clubiconen, zoals Tonny van Leeuwen, Piet Fransen, de Koemannen en Jan van Dijk. Ook sinds de verhuizing van het roemruchte Stadion Oosterpark naar de aanvankelijk onneembare vesting van de Euroborg voetbalden tal van pareltjes, die later Europese en zelfs wereldsterren zouden worden, in het groen-witte FC-shirt. FC Groningen presenteert het sterrenelftal van de Groene Kathedraal.
De Trots van het Noorden maakte een keuze uit vele topvoetballers die bij FC Groningen uitgroeiden tot sterkhouders in een elftal en binnen de muren van de Euroborg de eerste belangrijke stappen zetten richting een internationale carrière. De club selecteerde het sterrenelftal van de Groene Kathedraal en maakte een special die afgelopen week te zien was op ESPN.
De special ‘Het sterrenelftal van de Groene Kathedraal’ is ook terug te kijken op het YouTube-kanaal van de club.
