Radinio Balker is één van de debutanten dit seizoen bij FC Groningen. De verdediger staat al ruim een jaar onder contract bij de club, maar kende een valse start. Op trainingsdag drie aan de start van het afgelopen seizoen liep hij een zware blessure op. In de special: ‘De comeback van Radinio Balker’ kijkt de verdediger terug op een tijd vol heftige uitdagingen en hoe een jaar keihard werken, uiteindelijk werd beloond.
De special werd eerder dit weekend uitgezonden op ESPN en is vanaf vandaag te zien op het YouTube-kanaal van FC Groningen. Balker komt uitvoerig aan het woord over de grootste uitdaging uit zijn sportloopbaan. Naast de hoofdpersoon wordt ook gesproken met fysiotherapeut Jesse Renken met wie de stopper een nauwe band opbouwde tijdens de revalidatie. Daarnaast wordt duidelijk welke rol padel in het proces van terugkeren op de voetbalvelden heeft gespeeld.
Balker is vanaf de start van dit seizoen één van de vaste krachten in het elftal van FC Groningen. Is het amper voor te stellen dat de centrale verdediger aan zijn eerste serie wedstrijden in de Eredivisie bezig is en vier maanden geleden als een kind zo blij was weer op het veld te mogen staan met zijn teamgenoten. De special ‘De comeback van Radinio Balker’ is een verhaal van een jongen wiens eredivisiedroom een nachtmerrie leek, maar altijd in zichzelf bleef geloven en nooit opgaf.
