Bjorn Meijer begon met voetballen bij VV Helpman, doorliep de gehele Opleiding van FC Groningen, schitterde in Euroborg in de Eredivisie en maakte een droomtransfer. De jonge linksback verkaste afgelopen zomer van de Trots van het Noorden naar het Belgische Club Brugge en debuteerde dit seizoen succesvol in de Champions League. FC Groningen zocht de Groninger op in België en maakte de special: Bjorn Meijer knokt zich naar de Champions League. De special is vanaf nu te zien op YouTube.
Het voetballeven van Meijer speelde zich jaren af op Sportpark Corpus den Hoorn. De jonge Groningse linksback droomde van het eerste elftal en werkte dagelijks keihard om die droom waar te maken. Het lukte. Meijer debuteerde voor FC Groningen en groeide binnen enkele maanden uit tot vaste waarde in het eerste elftal.
De ontwikkeling van de verdediger ging zo hard dat er al snel buitenlandse interesse op gang kwam. Meijer koos voor het Belgische Club Brugge dat Champions League speelt. Ook in Brugge knokte Meijer zich direct als vaste waarde in het elftal en laat hij op het hoogste podium zien een echte aanpakker te zijn.
In de special ‘Bjorn Meijer knokt zich naar de Champions League’ zoekt FC Groningen de voormalig pupil uit de Opleiding op in Brugge. De verdediger wordt gevolgd rondom het Champions League-duel met FC Porto. Meijer meet zich tegenwoordig met de wereldsterren, maar de Groningse nuchterheid en de wil om zichzelf iedere dag te blijven verbeteren tekent het karakter van de Stadjer.
