Wieger Sietsma (18) en Jeroen Gies (19) worden de doelmannen van de Beloftenkern voor het seizoen 2014/2015. Sietsma is afkomstig uit de eigen jeugdopleiding en keept dit seizoen in FC Groningen A1. Gies werkte begin april een tweedaagse stage af bij FC Groningen en komt over van Werder U21, uitkomend in de Bremen-liga.
De kwaliteiten van Sietsma zijn ruimschoots bekend binnen FC Groningen. Met Gies werd voor het eerst kennis gemaakt tijdens een indoortoernooi van Jong FC Groningen in het Duitse Cloppenburg, in januari van dit jaar. Daarna maakte Gies tijdens een tweedaagse stage een positieve indruk bij FC Groningen. Amateurbasis Beide doelmannen gaan op amateurbasis onderdeel uitmaken van de Beloftenkern voor het seizoen 2014/2015. Dezelfde status gaat gelden voor spits Jafar Arias en de verdedigers Glenn Bijl en Desevio Payne, allen dit seizoen uitkomend voor FC Groningen A1.
Tot de B-kern blijven ook verdediger Ron Janzen, de middenvelders Noureddine Boutzamar en Burak Saban en spits Arjen Hagenauw behoren. Zij zijn in het bezit van een doorlopend contract bij FC Groningen. Afscheid Wat de selectie van Jong FC Groningen betreft wordt er na dit seizoen afscheid genomen van keeper Joey Potveer, de verdedigers Angelo Cijntje en Marciano van Leijenhorst en aanvaller Kevin Mennega. Het contract van derde doelman André Krul, tussentijds naar FC Groningen gekomen na het vertrek van Luciano da Silva, wordt niet verlengd.
