Zondag 20 oktober speelde FC Groningen een thuiswedstrijd tegen titelkandidaat PSV. Er was vertrouwen bij FC Groningen na de overwinning op AZ, wat geresulteerd heeft in een 1-0 eindstand in Euroborg afgelopen weekend!
Al voorafgaand aan de wedstrijd hing er een goede sfeer in het stadion. Dit werd nog meer versterkt door de sfeeractie op de Tonny van Leeuwen tribune, waar een gigantisch spandoek de hele tribune bedekte. De eerste helft begon met veel druk vanaf de kant van PSV. Dit resulteerde in een aantal mooie kansen voor PSV. Doelman Marco Bizot heeft echter met prachtige reddingen de nul weten te behouden.
Vijf minuten na de start van de tweede helft scoorde de “man of the match” van de vorige wedstrijd, Filip Kostic, een prachtig doelpunt, door de bal tussen de benen van de PSV-doelman door te schieten. De goal kwam tot stand uit een snel genomen vrije trap van Nick van der Velden, waarna Tjaronn Chery de bal goed naar Kostic speelde .
Na het doelpunt volgde een spannende fase in de wedstrijd. Tot het eind aan toe bleef PSV kansen creeëren, maar dankzij de uitblinker van de wedstrijd, Marco Bizot, bleef de stand 1-0 tot het einde.
Wederom blijven de 3 punten in Euroborg, wat betekent dat FC Groningen nog steeds ongeslagen is in eigen huis dit seizoen. Groningen staat neemt nu de 7e plaats in op de ranglijst, slechts 2 punten achter op de koploper. Volgend weekend speelt FC Groningen een uitwedstrijd tegen Vitesse.
Voorafgaand aan de wedstrijd liepen er 14 Junior Club leden aan de hand van een speler of scheids-/grensrechter het veld op: Dylan Dijkema, Patrick Schuiten, Matthijs Prins, David Brouwer, Joey Schut, Lars Keijzer, Rowan Schut, Marth Boer, Thijs de Vries, Dion Beks, Maarten Darneviel, Sem Jansen, Jesper Lokken en Luuk Pennings.
Er hebben 5 GWB leden meegedaan aan de Gasunie Shoot-Out tijdens in de rust van de wedstrijd; Maikel Venekamp, Martijn Huizenga, Quincy Boy Dijkstra, Sander Drijfhout en Niels Goedhart.
