FC Groningen is met een selectie van 24 spelers naar het trainingskamp in het Spaanse Oliva afgereisd. Nick van der Velden (lies), Nick Bakker (kruisband), Henk Bos (kruisband), Emil Johansson (ziek) en Richairo Zivkovic (schoolverplichtingen) gingen niet mee.
In de 24-koppige selectie is ruimte voor een kwartet spelers van de B-selectie: aanvallers Kevin Mennega en Arjen Hagenauw, doelman Stefan van der Lei en verdediger Hans Hateboer.
De begeleidingsstaf bestaat uit trainers Erwin van de Looi, Dick Lukkien, Marcel Groninger, Peter Hoekstra, Brian van Loo, Jan Arend Vredeveld, teammanager Bas Roorda, clubarts Stijn de Bruijn, fysio Peter Eppinga, verzorger Henk Hagenauw, materiaalmannen Henk Sikkema en Bert de Voogd en technisch manager Henk Veldmate. Programma Zaterdagochtend om 7.20 uur vloog het gezelschap met vlucht HV6331 naar Valencia, waar het vliegtuig om 9.53 uur landde. Per bus wordt de reis vervolgd naar het hotel in Oliva. Zaterdagmiddag staat de eerste training op het programma.
De aanvangstijden van de oefenduels zijn bekend. Op zondagmiddag 5 januari om 15.00 uur wordt gespeeld tegen het Belgische AA Gent. Op vrijdagmiddag 10 januari om 14.30 uur wordt het geoefend tegen NAC Breda. Beide duels vinden plaats op het resort in Oliva.

Namens het Dagblad van het Noorden reisde Jan Mennega af naar Spanje en namens RTV Noord is Elwin Baas de volger tijdens deze week. Ook deze media zullen dagelijks verslag doen vanuit Oliva.
