De eerste selectie van FC Groningen heeft de nacht van woensdag op donderdag doorgebracht in het Steigenberger Airport Hotel te Frankfurt.
Na twee-en-een-half uur te hebben gewacht op het vliegveld in Leipzig kon de reis naar Frankfurt afgelopen nacht om 1.00 uur worden hervat. Om 1.45 uur landde vlucht LH351 – met een kleine vier uur vertraging – in Frankfurt.
Teammanager Theo Huizinga wist binnen een mum van tijd twintig kamers te reserveren in het nabij gelegen Steigenberger Airport Hotel. Daar checkte het 35-koppige gezelschap rond half drie vannacht in en kon een ieder van een beetje nachtrust genieten.
Maar niet voordat een bezoek was gebracht aan het naastgelegen Esso-tankstation. Want de inwendige mens was al een halve dag amper voorzien van eten en na de stroef verlopen start van de reis had iedereen reuze trek.
Donderdagochtend was het zaak op het vliegveld de vlucht om te boeken en te proberen alsnog in Porto aan te komen. Van daaruit zal nog een reis per bus afgelegd moeten worden naar het hotel in Guimaraes.
Update: Het eerste deel van de groep uur (zeven personen) zal vanmiddag om 14.05 uur via Lissabon afreizen naar Porto. Een tweede groep van achttien personen neemt om 15.10 uur een vlucht via Muenchen naar Porto. Het resterende deel van het gezelschap van tien personen zal in de loop van vanavond richting Portugal vliegen.
