Donderdag 2 mei is op sportpark ‘Vinkhuizen’ aan de Zilverlaan in de Wijk Vinkhuizen de finale van de FC Groningen Buurt Battle 2013. De FC Groningen Buurt Battle is één van de vele maatschappelijke projecten van de Stichting FC Groningen in de Maatschappij. De eerste selectie van FC Groningen zal bij de finale, die om 15.00 uur begint en tot 17.00 uur duurt, aanwezig zijn. Algemeen directeur Hans Nijland verricht om 14.50 uur de officiële opening.
De Stichting FC Groningen in de Maatschappij en haar partners Menzis, Nijestee, FC Groningen, Lefier Hoogezand, Gemeente Groningen en de Gemeente Hoogezand-Sappemeer hebben na de editie van vorig jaar het project uitgerold van zes naar tien wijken. Dit zijn de wijken Oosterpark, Vinkhuizen, Groningen-Zuid, Selwerd, Beijum, Lewenborg, De Hoogte/Indische Buurt, Hoogkerk, Gorecht-West (Hoogezand) en Spoorstraat-Kieldiep (Hoogezand). Punten De afgelopen acht weken lag de uitvoering van dit project in handen van professionals van het Bslim project en het sportteam Hoogezand. De deelnemers hebben trainingen ondergaan en buurtbijdrages uitgevoerd. Hiermee hebben ze punten verdiend. De deelnemers met de meeste punten nemen met hun wijkteam deel aan de finale op donderdag 2 mei. VIP-arrangement Elke wijk levert één of twee teams, die donderdag zullen strijden tegen de andere wijken. Uiteindelijk zal er per leeftijdscategorie 10 t/m 12 jaar en 13 t/m 15 jaar één winnend team komen, dat een VIP-arrangement wint voor de competitiewedstrijd FC Groningen – Ajax, op zondag 12 mei. Sociale cohesie Met de FC Groningen Buurt Battle zet FC Groningen zich samen met de partners Menzis, Nijestee, Lefier (Hoogezand), gemeente Hoogezand-Sappemeer en de gemeente Groningen in voor een aantal belangrijke zaken. Zo willen de partners met dit project de sociale cohesie en de ouderbetrokkenheid vergroten, de leefstijl verbeteren en overlast terug dringen. Daarnaast zijn normen en waarden en sportparticipatie belangrijke aspecten binnen het project.
