Als het aan de aanklager betaald voetbal ligt, wordt Robert Maaskant voor één duel geschorst. De trainer van FC Groningen werd afgelopen zaterdag in Alkmaar vlak na rust in het competitieduel met AZ door scheidrechter Dennis Higler van het veld gestuurd. Volgens de arbitrage had Maaskant op- en aanmerkingen op de leiding. FC Groningen en Maaskant zullen dinsdag op het schikkingsvoorstel uit Zeist reageren.
FC Groningen won zaterdagavond in Alkmaar met 1-0 van AZ. Smet op de winst was het wegsturen van trainer Robert Maaskant. Nadat er kort na rust was gefloten voor een overtreding van Virgil van Dijk, reageerde de trainer richting zijn staf op de bank. Op basis van die opmerking kwam Higler richting de Groningen dug-out en gaf hij Maaskant een reprimande. De coach verklaarde na afloop dat hij een paar keer ‘hé’ had geroepen naar de scheidsrechter toen deze hem toesprak, zich weer omdraaide en weg liep. Maaskant wilde zijn kant van het verhaal vertellen, maar kreeg hiertoe de kans niet. Hij werd naar de tribune verwezen.
FC Groningen en Maaskant zullen dinsdag de rapportage uit Zeist goed doorlezen en de verklaringen van de betrokkenen zorgvuldig doornemen om vervolgens te bepalen of het schikkingsvoorstel van de KNVB wordt geaccepteerd of niet.
