Komend weekeinde staan alle voetbalclubs uit de Eredivisie en de Jupiler League op tegen kanker. In elk stadion wordt het publiek opgeroepen om letterlijk op te staan tegen kanker, te stoppen met het gebruik van kanker als scheldwoord en geld in te zamelen voor KWF Kankerbestrijding om zo onderzoek naar kanker mogelijk te maken. Zo ook zaterdagavond in Waalwijk bij de competitiewedstrijd tussen RKC en FC Groningen.
Voor dit bijzondere voetbalweekend hebben Stichting Meer dan Voetbal en KWF Kankerbestrijding de handen ineen geslagen en de voetbalclubs gevraagd op te staan tegen kanker. Iedere club vult de actie op zijn eigen manier in. Zo zal bij de wedstrijd van FC Groningen voormalig spits van RKC Waalwijk, Rick Hoogendorp, voor de aftrap een oproep doen op de middenstip. Daarnaast worden er SMS-acties ingezet, collectes gehouden en diverse acties opgezet om geld op te halen voor wetenschappelijk kankeronderzoek. Oproep versterken Als maatschappelijk partner van de Eredivisie staat ook de Vriendenloterij op tegen kanker. Om de oproep te versterken stelt de Vriendenloterij al haar uitingen rondom het voetbal, zoals de ruimte op de ledboarding, dit weekend beschikbaar voor KWF Kankerbestrijding.
Eén op de drie Nederlanders krijgt kanker. Per uur overlijden er in Nederland vijf mensen aan kanker. Kanker raakt dus iedereen. KWF Kankerbestrijding droomt van een wereld waarin niemand meer overlijdt aan kanker. Daarom roept KWF iedereen op te staan tegen kanker. Door donateur of vrijwilliger te worden of door zelf een actie te organiseren om geld in te zamelen voor KWF. Want als we samen opstaan, kunnen we investeren in onderzoek en daarmee kanker terugdringen.
