Jong FC Groningen trad vrijdagavond in een oefenduel met SC Veendam aan met liefst negen A-selectiespelers. Het duel in Borgercompagnie begon om 19.00 uur.
Trainer Robert Maaskant zal zaterdagmiddag om 17.00 uur voor zijn basiself een keuze maken uit de resterende vijftien spelers van de eerste selectie. Op de velden van De Weide in Hoogeveen is FC Emmen de achtste tegenstander in de voorbereiding. Na de twee nipte nederlagen in Zuid-Korea zet FC Groningen de oefencampagne voort in Drenthe. Komende week zullen de resterende duels worden afgewerkt in achtereenvolgens Roden en Rolde.
Doordat de spelers uit de B-kern vrijdagavond wat minder in actie kwamen, is er dinsdagavond 31 juli een extra oefenwedstrijd ingelast. De ploeg van trainer Dick Lukkien speelt dan in Hardenberg een uitwedstrijd tegen HHC. Aanvang is 19.15 uur. Op maandag 6 augustus speelt Jong FC in Emmen de laatste testmatch tegen WKE. Eerste elftal In Hoogeveen trapt FC Groningen zaterdagmiddag om 17.00 uur af tegen de enige BVO uit de provincie Drenthe, FC Emmen dus. Het duel zal worden gespeeld op de velden van VV De Weide. Leuk detail aan deze wedstrijd is dat de stoelen op de tribunes in Hoogeveen afkomstig zijn uit het voormalige Stadion Oosterpark van FC Groningen.
Na vier ‘simpele’ zeges op amateurclubs en de zege op FC Volendam verloor FC Groningen in het Zuid-Koreaanse Suwon nipt van Hamburger SV en Sunderland. FC Emmen is de achtste tegenstander in de voorbereiding van het seizoen 2012/2013. In de komende week wordt nog geoefend tegen het Spaanse Osasuna en provinciegenoot SC Veendam.
