Afgelopen donderdag 19 februari is Auko Bleker, oud-voorzitter van de Supportersvereniging FC Groningen, in zijn woonplaats Paterswolde is overleden. Hij werd 81 jaar.
Begin jaren ’90 was Bleker ruim drie jaar voorzitter van de Supportersvereniging. In januari 1991 nam hij het stokje over van Gerard Kuilman. Bleker werd eerst interim-voorzitter en later dat jaar definitief benoemd als voorzitter van de Supportersvereniging.
De voetballiefhebber en journalist in ruste kwam bij de vereniging binnen op een moment dat FC Groningen roerige tijden beleefde. Na de zwart geld-affaire was de club bijna failliet verklaard, maar op sportief gebied werden juist successen geboekt. Zo werd het seizoen 1990/1991 één van de succesvolste seizoenen ooit. Ook de Supportersvereniging vierde onder het voorzitterschap van Bleker een belangrijke en feestelijke mijlpaal: het duizendste lid kon worden begroet.
In maart 1994 stopte Bleker met zijn voorzitterschap van de Supportersvereniging. Bij zijn benoeming als voorzitter in oktober 1991 had Bleker al aangegeven slechts tijdelijk beschikbaar te zijn, omdat hij het vanwege zijn leeftijd wat rustiger aan wilde doen. Zijn taken werden destijds overgenomen door Robert Noppers.
