Zondagmiddag om 15.15 uur stonden twee teams van oud-FC’ers tegenover elkaar in Euroborg. Het was een weerzien met bekenden. Voorafgaand aan het duel kreeg Piet Fransen het retro-shirt uit 1971 aangeboden door directeur Hans Nijland.
Fransen geldt als oud-speler van GVAV en FC Groningen als clubicoon. Hij werd onlangs 75 jaar en is nog altijd actief binnen de club. Daarnaast treedt hij al jaren op als coach van oud-FC Groningen waarvan Ronald Steenge als coördinator optreedt. Samen kregen ze enkele duizenden wedstrijden ervaring op de been. Na tweemaal 30 minuten onder leiding van arbiter Ben Haverkort stond via een 2-1 ruststand uiteindelijk een 3-2 score op de borden.
Team wit speelde in de volgende samenstelling: Johan Tukker, Hendrikus Huisman, Jan Veenhof, Walter Waalderbos, Henk Oosterwold, Barend Beltman, Arjan Blaauw, Maarten de Jong, Leonardo dos Santos Silva, René Eijkelkamp en Rob McDonald. Invallers: Jos Roossien, Gerrie van Lingen, Lucien Sahetapy, Gertjan Beltman.
