Vrijdagochtend 8 mei heeft de KNVB bekend gemaakt dat de opzet van de play-offs opnieuw is gewijzigd. Het is nu definitief geworden dat de nummers 6 tot en met 9 in de Eredivisie spelen om het laatste overgebleven ticket voor de Europa League, de nieuwe naam voor het voormalige UEFA Cup-toernooi.
Waarschijnlijk starten de play-offs voor FC Groningen nu met een uitwedstrijd op zaterdag 16 mei tegen de nummer 9, die na de laatste speelronde van komende zondag definitief bekend bekend zal zijn. Donderdag 21 mei en mogelijk zondag 24 mei volgen dan thuisduels in Euroborg.
Op dit moment wordt echter nog onderzocht om de data van de play-offs naar voren te halen of de play-offs alsnog in te korten naar een uit- en een thuiswedstrijd, waarbij na een gelijke stand gerekend over twee duels uit gescoorde doelpunten dubbel tellen en mogelijk een verlenging en strafschoppen kunnen volgen na het tweede duel. Dit omdat een eventuele derde beslissende wedstrijd van de finale op woensdag 3 juni kan conflicteren met het afstaan van internationals.
Zodra de speeldata definitief zijn, zullen wij dit uiteraard zo snel mogelijk op deze website melden. De voorverkoop voor de eerste thuiswedstrijd in de play-offs loopt in alle gevallen tot en met woensdag 13 mei voor seizoenkaarthouders. Op donderdag 14 mei volgt de losse verkoop. Hierbij kunnen (Seizoen)ClubCardhouders maximaal twee kaarten aanschaffen.
