Marco Out is burgemeester van Assen. Out is sinds eind jaren 80 van de vorige eeuw supporter van FC Groningen. In zijn studententijd in Groningen raakte Out verknocht aan de club en kocht een seizoenkaart. Groningen was zijn stad, FC Groningen zijn club. Inmiddels vele jaren later is Out nog altijd seizoenkaarthouder bij de Trots van het Noorden en heeft de liefde voor de FC overgedragen aan zijn zoon.
Als burgemeester heeft Marco Out een zeer veelzijdige baan, maar hij kijkt het liefst uit naar het weekend, want dan wordt het pas echt leuk: een wedstrijd van FC Groningen. De weg naar de Grote Markt doet hem terugdenken aan de promotiewedstrijd in 2000. In een vol uitvak stond Out achter de ploeg op bezoek bij Emmen en keerde met de bus terug in de Stad om direct door te lopen richting Grote Markt voor de huldiging. Een nieuw succes vieren op deze plek is waar de burgemeester van Assen reikhalzend naar uitkijkt.
FC Groningen heeft een missie omschreven in het beleidsplan 2020-2025 Samen naar de Grote Markt. In het hart van de stad Groningen, waar alles samen komt, wil FC Groningen samen met alle supporters, sponsors, vrijwilligers en iedereen die de club een warm hart toedraagt successen vieren. In de serie ‘Op weg naar de Grote Markt’ gaat de club op zoek naar het echte Groningen-gevoel van diverse seizoenkaarthouders. In aflevering 2: Burgemeester van Assen Marco Out.
