FC Groningen speelt vanavond bij Noordster in Oude Pekela tegen het Turkse Ankaragücü. Het duel begint om 19.00 uur. Kaarten kosten 9 euro voor volwassenen en 4 euro voor jeugd tot en met 12 jaar. De kassa gaat open om 17.30 uur.
De FC is inmiddels over de helft van de voorbereiding op het seizoen 2011/2012. Afgelopen weekend werd in de traditionele opwarmpartij tegen SC Veendam met 4-0 gewonnen. Maandagmiddag kwamen alle fitte veldspelers van de eerste selectie nogmaals in actie. Op Corpus den Hoorn werd door ‘Jong FC Groningen’ namelijk met liefst negen dispensatiespelers gespeeld tegen Sockers FC uit het Amerikaanse Chicago. Het werd 6-0 voor de Groningers.
Vanavond kan de ploeg van Pieter Huistra ongetwijfeld op een stuk meer tegenstander rekenen, wanneer het team aantreedt tegen de nummer 13 van Turkije: Ankaragücü, opgericht in 1910. De ploeg uit de hoofdstad van Turkije speelde de afgelopen dertig jaar onafgebroken op het hoogste niveau en eindigde in de afgelopen zes seizoenen precies viermaal op plek dertien.
De ploeg kende in 2001/2002 zijn beste seizoen in het bestaan. Toen eindigde de ploeg als vierde van het land. In 1999 en 2002 nam de club deel aan de UEFA Cup, maar werd het beide keren in een vroeg stadium uitgeschakeld. Bekersucces was er voor de club in 1972 en 1981 en driemaal verloor Ankaragücü de ‘cupfinal’.
Bij Noordster in Oude Pekela openen de kassa’s vanavond om 17.30 uur. Het duel begint om 19.00 uur en staat onder leiding van Jeroen Sanders. Het Sportpark van V.V.
