Veel mensen genieten wekelijks met elkaar in het voetbalstadion van de sport, de sfeer en de gezelligheid. Maar voor mensen met een beperking is de drempel om naar het stadion te gaan vaak te hoog. Bijvoorbeeld omdat er geen of te weinig speciale rolstoelplaatsen of voorzieningen zijn.
MIVA United neemt die hindernissen weg zodat ook mensen met een beperking in het stadion kunnen genieten van hun favoriete sport en hun eigen club kunnen aanmoedigen.
Voorafgaand aan de wedstrijd FC Groningen-Vitesse, op zondag 14 december, werd in het bijzijn van Hans Nijland (FC Groningen) en Joost de Wit (Vitesse) in Euroborg de aftrap gegeven voor dit nieuwe initiatief. MIVA United is een initiatief van de supportersverenigingen de Rollyside van FC Groningen en de Rollerside van Vitesse.
MIVA United wil zorgen voor voldoende rolstoelplaatsen in alle voetbalstadions, ook voor fans van de bezoekende ploeg. Daarnaast is het doel om ook voldoende geschikte plekken te realiseren voor mensen die een beperking hebben maar niet van een rolstoel afhankelijk zijn, zoals bijvoorbeeld mensen met een visuele beperking. Dit is initiatief wordt ondersteund door de KNVB.
In hun stadions bieden FC Groningen en Vitesse al ruim plaats aan rolstoelgebruikers. Beide clubs hebben zelfs een eigen speciale supportersvereniging voor deze groep fans: bij FC Groningen de Rolly Side en bij Vitesse de Rollerside. Het is dan ook geen toeval dat juist deze twee clubs grondleggers zijn van MIVA United.
Als maatschappelijk partner van zowel FC Groningen als Vitesse en als sponsor van de Rolly Side steunt Menzis het initiatief van MIVA United. Want het verlaagt de drempel voor mensen met een beperking om volwaardig mee te doen in de samenleving en het vergroot zo hun leefkracht.
