Martijn Meerdink ontbreekt vandaag tijdens de eerste dag van de voorbereiding op het seizoen 2009/2010. Hij heeft van FC Groningen toestemming gekregen een transfer naar een nieuwe club af te ronden. Alle partijen verwachten hierover nog deze week een akkoord.
Naast Meerdink ontbreken vanmiddag in Haren, waar traditioneel wordt afgetrapt voor een nieuw seizoen, nog vier andere selectiespelers. Het viertal had na afloop van de play-offs nog internationale verplichtingen en heeft nu nog vakantie. Dat geldt niet voor Marcus Berg, want hij speelt momenteel in eigen land met Jong Zweden het EK onder-21. Hij krijgt na afloop van dat toernooi rust en meldt zich pas 20 juli weer in Groningen.
Andreas Granqvist en Tom Hiariej sluiten op 1 juli weer aan bij de groep en Oluwafemi Ajilore keert op 6 juli terug uit Nigeria. Ook keeperstrainer Ruud Hesp geniet nog van vakantie,nadat hij zich als staflid van het Nederlands elftal wist te kwalificeren voor het WK 2010.
