Tim Matavz speelt volgend seizoen niet voor het Italiaanse Napoli. Matavz heeft de onderhandelingen stopgezet en aan FC Groningen laten weten komend seizoen graag in Euroborg te willen blijven spelen.
Zowel FC Groningen als Matavz waren al enige tijd in onderhandeling met de nummer 3 van de Italiaanse Serie A, die volgend jaar in de Champions League zal spelen. FC Groningen was zelfs al tot een akkoord gekomen met Napoli.
Tot een definitieve overeenkomst is het ondanks vele gesprekken tussen Matavz en Napoli niet gekomen. De FC-topscorer heeft inmiddels zelf de knoop doorgehakt en de onderhandelingen met Napoli definitief stopgezet. Zijn contract in Groningen loopt nog tot medio 2013.
Directeur Hans Nijland over het niet doorgaan van deze transfer: “We zijn vrijdagmiddag keurig door Tim geïnformeerd dat hij niet langer voor een overgang naar Napoli voelt, omdat men niet tot een akkoord kan komen. Verder heeft hij bij ons aangegeven ook in het seizoen 2011/2012 graag voor FC Groningen uit te zullen komen in de Eredivisie.”
