Hedwiges Maduro is door de fans van FC Groningen uitgeroepen tot Essent Man of the Match in de thuiswedstrijd tegen FC Twente van woensdagavond. De bekerwedstrijd telt niet mee in de ranglijst voor de Essent Speler van het Jaar.
Maduro scoorde na een uur spelen de winnende treffer (2-1) en speelde de volle negentig minuten. Doelman Sergio Padt, die voor het eerst sinds 427 speelminuten in het KNVB-bekertoernooi weer een tegendoelpunt kreeg te verwerken, eindigde op de tweede plek. De Zweedse invaller Simon Tibbling, die met elf balveroveringen in de tweede helft een groot aandeel had in de ommekeer, eindigde in de verkiezing van Essent Man of the Match op de derde plek.
