Trainer Dick Lukkien heeft het de eerste maanden bij Jong FC Groningen goed naar de zin in zijn nieuwe werkomgeving. "De organisatie staat als een huis."
“Ik kan hier primair met voetbal bezig zijn,” vervolgt hij, “en de randzaken worden allemaal door anderen geregeld. Dat was bij Veendam anders. Daar moest ik als trainer ook de ballen, het vervoer en alles er omheen verzorgen. Wel een goede leerschool, natuurlijk.” Niet gedacht Behalve de organisatorische stap, is ook de kwaliteit van de spelers hoger dan in Veendam. “Bij Groningen heeft iedere speler toch wat meer bagage. De grootste uitdaging is elke dag maximaal te trainen met de groep. Daar moeten ze het meeste aan wennen. Toen ik in juli kwam, had ik niet gedacht dat we nu al zover zouden zijn.”
“De spelers uit de A1 maken bijvoorbeeld de overstap van jeugd- naar volwassen voetbal. Er wordt een steeds professionelere aanpak geëist. Maar het belangrijkste is dat iedereen er plezier in heeft en houdt. Nu ze merken dat ze door deze aanpak ook beter gaan spelen en het langer kunnen volhouden, beginnen de jongens het steeds leuker te vinden.
