Van vrijdag 7 tot en met maandag 10 maart staan alle wedstrijden in het betaald voetbal in het teken van De Aanvoerders. Als kick-off droeg Robin van Persie op 5 maart tijdens de wedstrijd Frankrijk – Nederland de speciale aanvoerdersband van De Aanvoerders.
De Aanvoerders is een verbond van prof- en amateurvoetballers die hun verantwoordelijkheid nemen en staan voor de kracht en schoonheid van het voetbal. Zowel binnen als buiten het veld. De Aanvoerders roept in eerste instantie alle aanvoerders op om zich aan te sluiten, maar iedereen kan zich aanmelden.
Met de organisatie van verschillende initiatieven door het hele land stimuleren De Aanvoerders dat voetballers hun verantwoordelijkheid nemen. De positieve beleving van de sport staat hierbij centraal. Zij stimuleren iedereen die bij het verbond is aangesloten om goede ideeën in te sturen en met elkaar te delen. Begin de wedstrijd met een hand Dit seizoen roept De Aanvoerders alle voetballers in het amateurvoetbal op om voor de wedstrijd de hand te schudden met de tegenstander. Dit idee is vorig jaar massaal ingestuurd via het platform van De Aanvoerders en vervolgens verkozen tot ‘Idee van het Jaar’. Het is een klein gebaar dat iedereen kan uitvoeren en veel kan betekenen. Sluit je aan! Ook Rasmus Lindgren staat achter De Aanvoerders en roept alle voetballers op om zich aan te sluiten bij dit initiatief. Via de website www.deaanvoerders.nl kun je jezelf inschrijven en ontvang je gratis een aanvoerdersband. Op de website kun je jouw sportieve ideeën insturen, al jouw vrienden, familie en kennissen uitnodigen om aanvoerder te worden en zelfs een eigen poster ontwerpen met jouw favoriete clubkleuren. Over De Aanvoerders Oud-profvoetballers Ruud Gullit, Aron Winter, Ben Wijnstekers en Arthur Numan zijn de initiatiefnemers van het in maart 2013 gestarte verbond.
